About the Position

We're launching something different – a premium bookkeeping practice serving our client base of elite entrepreneurs who run 8- and 9-figure businesses. This bookkeeping business will be part of a vision to offer comprehensive family office services to our clients… the first of several similar services we’ll be standing up in the coming year. This isn't your typical accounting role. You'll build the entire operation from scratch, design the systems, set the quality standards, and become the trusted financial expert for some of the most successful business owners in the country.

This role is for you if:

  • You've closed books yourself and understand debits and credits at a deep technical level – but you're ready to lead rather than do routine data entry.
  • You get excited about building systems, creating templates, and designing processes that scale.
  • You can hold your own in a conversation with a sophisticated entrepreneur who's managing multiple 7-figure entities.
  • You want equity in what you're building, not just a paycheck.
  • You're looking for a career-defining opportunity, not just another job.

Working within a Distributed Workforce

This is a fully remote role. Approximately four times per year, we will pay you to fly out to our headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ to get an opportunity to connect with your colleagues in person and align on quarterly objectives. Beyond that, however, your primary interaction with your colleagues will be through the cloud-based tech stack we leverage to align our distributed workforce, which includes employees across the United States.

Notwithstanding the virtual nature of our model, at present, we are only hiring applicants who reside within the continental United States (excluding CA) to minimize HR and tax complexities and to keep our team within four time zones of each other.

Key Responsibilities

Build the Infrastructure & Launch the Offering (Months 1-6):

  • Design standardized chart of accounts templates for family office and corporate bookkeeping
  • Create quality control processes that ensure excellence across 100+ clients
  • Build scalable workflows and systems that maintain quality as you grow
  • Establish client communication protocols and service standards

Lead the Operations (Ongoing):

  • Supervise on outsourced bookkeeping team (starting with 1, scaling to 5+ bookkeepers by month 30)
  • Review and audit bookkeeper work to catch errors before they become problems
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for all clients, serving as the "face of the company"
  • Make technical accounting judgment calls on complex transactions
  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and accounting standards

Partner with Elite Clients:

  • Communicate with sophisticated entrepreneurs who manage complex financial structures
  • Conduct financial reviews and answer bookkeeping questions with expertise and gravitas
  • Build trusted relationships that enhance client retention
  • Navigate multi-entity structures (LLCs, partnerships, trusts, real estate holdings)

Scale with Quality:

  • Grow from 20 clients to 100+ within 30 months while maintaining exceptional standards
  • Hire and train additional bookkeeper resources as needed
  • Continuously refine processes to improve efficiency and client experience

Qualifications

You Must Have:

  • Hands-on technical depth - You've actually closed books, done journal entries, and reconciled accounts yourself. You know debits and credits cold.
  • Multi-client experience - Background in public accounting, a bookkeeping firm, or managing books for multiple entities. Single-company corporate controllers won't thrive here.
  • Management experience - You've supervised or trained accounting/bookkeeping staff
  • Executive presence - Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with high-net-worth clients
  • Systems mindset - You love building processes, creating templates, and systematizing for scale
  • Cash & accrual expertise - You understand both methods and know when IRS regulations require each

We Strongly Prefer:

  • Family office bookkeeping experience - You've managed books for family office LLCs that track income/expenses across properties, trusts, and investments
  • Industry expertise - Familiarity with accounting for professional services, coaching/consulting, and/or real estate
  • Audit background - Big Four or regional firm experience where you saw diverse clients and industries
  • QuickBooks Online - Experience with QBO and cloud-based platforms
  • Bachelor's degree - Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required

Bonus Points For:

  • P&L responsibility for a division or business
  • Experience building an accounting practice from scratch
  • CPA certification or working toward it
  • Complex real estate accounting experience (development, investment properties)

A Note on Credentials:

We care about what you can do, not what letters you have after your name. If you have deep multi-client bookkeeping experience and can demonstrate technical mastery through our assessment process, formal credentials are secondary. That said, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and CPA certification are valuable signals of competency and commitment - we just won't disqualify exceptional candidates who took a different path.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is a Starting salary: $120,000 per year with a clear path to $180,000. Additionally, the firm offers a generous benefits package that includes, among other benefits, flexible PTO, fully subsidized healthcare, a 401(k)-matching program, and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
